In related news, it's another pleasant surprise to see my artwork Moment of Conception printed in this year's exhibition booklet, advertising the annual Artist in Focus Award. Neighbouring is Skinny White Girl by fellow award winner Judy Rogers.

Moment of Conception was also the poster baby we used for my Capriccio! solo exhibition in 2017. Its inclusion in this year's JCAA booklet should strike a chord with residents who might recall the exhibition advertisements I posted up around town last year.

Capriccio! Solo exhibition - Open Invitation

'These new paintings are like a licentious romp with a group of gender bending intemperate cherubs, riding the fine and ever closing line of obscenity.'
-Ben Waters (2017) A sordid caper, in paint
Warmest greetings, arts enthusiast!

I'm excited to invite you to my big event of the year - my solo exhibition at the Joondalup Art Gallery!

Twelve months ago, I won the City of Joondalup’s Arts in Focus award. The prize granted me $500 towards materials and a fully-covered solo exhibition in 2017.

And now the time has arrived! Thirty artworks, from loaded sketchbooks to heavy oil paintings, will be on display, with a fully published companion booklet Ryck Rudd, Capriccio! A Sordid Caper, in Paint, by Ben Waters.

I’d love it if you would join me on the 9th of June for the opening night with the Joondalup Community Arts Association. Drinks and snacks will be provided, with lovely harp music after a formal opening from WA artist and mentor of mine Gregory Pryor.

'Rudd has an undeniable authorial hand, his handle of the material of paint is charged with a macabre sexuality that is reminiscent of Ensor.' -B.W.
All paintings will be for sale at emerging artist prices.

In the meantime, please visit the facebook event page for more information and my website and for a taste of what's to come.

(If you’re unable to visit but wish for a copy of the book, please do notify me!)

Kindest regards,

It’s my great honour to receive the prestigious Louise Macfie Scholarship for Painting! Annually, a graduating student whose work "has shown the most improvement in painting, over the duration of the Bachelor of Visual Arts degree," is selected for the prize of $2,000 to spend towards their arts practice. Louise Macfie has been a true arts patron of Edith Cowan University for many years, and her passion for painting has been felt by generations of humbled students.
A variety of privileges were awarded to this year’s graduates. Among these is a nomination for Hatched, the National Graduate Show at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Art (PICA) for 2017. I’m delighted to say I am one of the five emerging artists at ECU to receive a nomination!

Gregory Pryor and Dr. Paul Uhlmann announcing the Hatched 2017 nominees
2017 is looking to be a very exciting year! I wish to thank my mentors, whose vast knowledge I relied upon to advance; lecturers Paul Uhlmann and Gregory Pryor, and generous technicians Ben Waters and Vanessa Wallace.
And to those who came down to support me on the opening night, it was so nice to see friends from years past, whose love for art remains kindled in Perth. I hope to see you all again next year!

Our graduation exhibition remains open to the public until the 3rd of December. For more information, please see my open invitation.

I’m overjoyed to receive the Artist in Focus Award from the City of Joondalup! Of all the generous prizes entrusted by the judges of the Community Art Exhibition, I was immensely fortunate to receive the one I most deeply need; the prize includes a 2017 solo exhibition at the Joondalup Art Gallery, and $500 towards my arts practice. On the night of the opening, I met such wonderful people and bid farewell to my painting Narcissus, one of the hundred and thirty works on display at Joondalup Shopping City.
