I hesitate to describe Material Murmurings as turning trash into treasure - but rather as imbuing strength and purpose into forgotten materials. There are objects made which do in fact reach the levels expected of compelling art. It's a surprising and meaningful exhibition. These days we see Australian university arts courses contracting, but hopefully Material Murmurings continues and gains wider recognition. Maybe towards acquisitions and commissions from mass-production (and mass-waste) companies, and invitations to art events like Sculpture by the Sea.
